35 years of components perfection
CYTEC, with its innovative product range, has been a leader in the market over the last 35 years and has established itself as a permanent player in the international machine tools market. CYTEC key components are used worldwide, in areas such as tool and mold making, in the automotive industry, as well as in aviation and aerospace engineering.
The company was founded in 1984 as a specialist and patent holder for locking cylinders. Since then the family company has developed into a multi-national company with an international network of production, sales and service locations.
The decades of experience and the resulting CYTEC technical know-how, plus its loyal customer base have made CYTEC one of the strongest companies in the industry. CYTEC manufactures both standard components as well as complex user-oriented systems.
The CYTEC team manufactures all of the company’s products, except for a few purchased parts. The large production range and therefore always flexible manufacturing guarantee CYTEC's high product quality. This product quality is confirmed by regular ISO 9001 audits.
The vision of a locking system - In 1983, the vision becomes reality: Klaus Klement invents a new technology for locking cylinders. Shortly afterwards he founded the company CYTEC, which quickly enjoyed great success on the market as a manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, especially in the tool and mould making industry.
In 1988 Klaus Klement moved his company CYTEC from the inventor's garage to the industrial sector and built the first two-story production hall. In this production hall, the assembly of the cylinders and clamping systems is carried out by CYTEC. To this day, CYTEC is very proud, that the corporate name still defines the origin of the company.
In 1996, the first foreign production site and CYTEC France are founded. Both are still part of the internationally active group of companies today.
Other patents, that deal with new technologies related to machine tools, bring technological advances to the market. Particularly noteworthy are the coupling between a tool-holder and the clamping shaft of a machine tool, tool clamping means and clamping devices for securing a tool holder onto the spindle of a machine tool.
In 2001, CYTEC UK is founded, which is still active in England today in addition to the sales companies that have been established around the world and all continents since then.
CYTEC continuously expands its own product range with the patent registrations. Permanent further development and technological agility has led CYTEC, the cylinder manufacturer, to become an internationally renowned manufacturer of cylinder and clamping technology as well as manufacturer of machine tool components such as motor spindles, milling heads and rotary tables.
Since 2016 the company has been managed by the 2nd family generation, Timo Klement. The vision from 1983 is still the visionary drive of the entire CYTEC team today: Components Perfection.
Klaus Klement recognizes the enormous future potential and registers a market-leading patent in 1986. The invention relates to a pressure medium-operated device with a cylinder housing, a piston displaceably arranged in the cylinder housing and a draw rod displaceably arranged in the cylinder housing. He recognized that in many applications it was necessary to generate and maintain holding force, e.g. tools that need to be held in a tool change magazine of a machine tool. Once these tools have been inserted into the corresponding holding fixtures, they should be held there in the axial direction with as little play and as securely as possible, so that their holding force is maintained even if, for example, electrical or hydraulic actuating means fail.
Further patents are registered. The patented locking system makes it possible to generate the load by mechanics and not with the constant air pressure otherwise required. The locking cylinder mechanically locks its piston rod positively (also with preload) in the desired end position. The patented fall protection and the load rigidity with multiple counterforces are the most important features of this system. Today, this type of mechanical locking is firmly established and is an indispensable means of positioning and holding in many different industries – for example slides and cores in mould-making or body frames for the car body construction.
Further patents are successfully registered in 1996. For example, the patent for the spindle drive for a machine tool. With the introduction of the HSK tool interface, CYTEC created motor spindles as a further part of its product range. This was the basis for building CYTEC's core competencies as a manufacturer of motor spindles.
Afterwards, an enormous growth phase takes place at the company's headquarters. The company premises are extended by further production halls and factory space. The continuous expansion at the site will take place until 2008.
CYTEC Zylindertechnik has consolidated its pioneering position in the market with further patents. Today, cylinders, clamping systems and components for machine tools are part of the company's established product portfolio. The manufacturing depth of CYTEC is more than 90%.
In 2019 the company celebrates its 35th anniversary and has developed further patents in the various product divisions. CYTEC further developed its products and introduced a new generation of core-pull locking cylinders with the highest retention force in its class.

In 2002, the first two-axis fork milling head with torque motors as direct drive was introduced. This technology is still present in the majority of rotating machining axes.
The CYTEC patent for direct-drive milling head technology, has dominated the market direction for high-end milling head technology. CYTEC presents itself as a pioneer of direct-driven 2-axes NC milling heads and producer of machine tool and automation components as well as components for production machines of the highest quality.
CYTEC holds more than 10 patents in various highly technical fields.
